West African Giraffes

In the past before the First World War started, the West African Giraffes enjoyed their home in the Savannah and Sahel regions. However, since their habitat got threatened and their number decrease, they later migrated to a lesser part of Niger in hope of finding peaceful grazing grounds. They feed on herbs and vegetations grown on trees and they can live up to 25 years. Their main challenge comes from human population boom as human beings are constantly destroying trees that the West Africa giraffes depend on for their food source. These long necked creatures will be a pleasure to watch when you take a vacation trip to the continent of Africa.

Waterbucks

Waterbucks are a usual sight to see in Africa and if by chance you should travel to their habitat for sightseeing or safari purpose you will be sure to see plenty of them. Their name says it all and so they tend to be found near waterholes where they can always have their fill of refreshing water whenever they want. Their scent is so bad that they use it as a weapon to deter predators. They mostly use tall grass found near rivers in Africa to hide from predators. Their worst predators are lions, cheetahs, wild dogs, leopards, crocodiles and even humans. Waterbucks can live for up to 15 years in captivity if they are treated well enough and their diet consists of herbs found on certain trees as well as plants.

Lions

Many people say that among all the animals living in the continent’s wild the lion is the pride of Africa. Presently their population is on the decrease mainly from human hunters and population boom that is taking over the African continent. Cattle farmers often kill them to protect their livestock. Today, Africa wildlife agencies have been battling to save the lions from extinction. Once they are living in the wild, their expected lifespan is about 10 to 14 years. However, if they are living in captivity and being cared for properly, their expected lifespan can go up to about 20 years. Therefore, get your tour plans running right now and travel to Africa where you will see the lions in all their glory.

Kudus

Kudus live in Africa and roam the plains freely. They depend on thick thickets to camouflage them from lurking predators. Today, not only are lions, cheetahs, crocodiles and leopards are preying on Kudus, but humans as well who hunt them mainly for their distinctive horns that they use as musical instrument, ritual objects as well as showpiece. In the wild, a kudu life span is expected to stop at eight years, but while in captivity it will go to as far as 23 years. The kudu diet consists of herbivorous food and is a delight to watch in the bush lands of Africa.

Mountain gorilla

The African gorilla can be found in four places in Africa, which are namely Virunga National Park, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Volcanoes National Park. The male gorilla measurement can reach up to 6 ft. tall while the female reaches 5 ft. tall. The males weigh about up to 400 lbs and the females up to 215 lbs. their life span can go up to about 40 to 50 years and they mainly populate dense forest as well as rainy forestry areas. They are occasionally threatened by leopards and especially human beings. Already humans are pushing them into extinction by taking over their habitat.
