The View from the Dog House (Pt. 11)

The Leader of the Pack

I have commandeered this post, which means my brother Scamp, known to me sometimes as the Squirt, will probably follow suit with the next one. Where Pickle leads Scamp invariably follows. I like to think that I am the leader of the three of us. Unfortunately, so does Scamp on occasion, whilst Herself insists that she should be obeyed at all times and is therefore our illustrious leader. This produces potential problematicals. (JRT speak technical term.)

We have just come back from our walk and as my brother and I cannot walk together, it gives us a chance to chat with Herself without unwelcome interruptions. It was during this walk that I came up with the idea of going solo on a post and she thought it was a good idea. Scamp fancies himself as the ideas whizz, but I still have my moments. As for Herself, her head is brimful of ideas, but she has problems finding the time to implement them. She also seems to be tearing herself in 101 directions at once.

I can see why successful writers employ a team. She would love to be able to focus on writing, but there is the editing, publishing, marketing and promoting to contend with and all that goes with it. She has decided she needs to get on Amazon and she has been trying to earn a crust by other means. Food, treats and chewdie sticks do not grow on trees. Then there are the domestics to deal with and us to take care of.

Now we are loving and supporting in many ways, but in fairness we are no help at all when it comes to housework. When a chap has worked so hard to put his stamp on his home and shed the equivalent of another dog, it is a slap on the snout to have all that removed with the hoover, mops, dusters and polish. We simply have to redouble our efforts to get things back to how they were and restore the status quo to our satisfaction.

Makes a chap wonder how we ever coped when she had a day job to worry about too! She had to give that up last October as it was causing as many problems as it solved. It is nice because we have more together time at home. We used to go out and about with her whenever possible, as her work involved a lot of travel. So we were together in Bubbles, our car, whilst travelling around and could chat and listen to the radio, same as we do at home. She even bought us a digital radio so we could continue to listen even when we were left on our own whilst she went off to do her job. Unfortunately, that was not the overwhelming success she had hoped for. We used to get treats and chews to occupy us while she was away and would stop sometimes en route for a quick walk—only a quick one mind you because we were up against the clock what with the travelling and the timing of appointments. Now we only travel to our usual walking spot, to the shops and stuff like that. The difference in travel costs must be huge. When we are in Bubbles, we travel in separate cages. We spend quite a bit of time in cages, both in Bubbles and at home. Sometimes it is our choice ,as a chap likes to have his own space, but at the moment it isn't because the neighbour is outside making a noise and the dog is on the prowl, which we don't like. On the other hand, a chap quite likes a snooze after his walk, so it's not all bad news.

We don't go out in Bubbles if it is hot weather. Even with the windows open and little fans on our cages, it can get too hot. Scamp doesn't like it if we have showers either. I am OK as I travel in the back. Bubbles is an SUV, so I don't get wet, but Scamp's cage is in front of mine by a back door, so with the windows open, he gets dripped on. Makes me laugh—he does grumble so! But then so does Herself when she gets back to find her seat is also wet.

Oh oh! She is now threatening to wash our bedding. I need to think of a way to stop this! So I'll bid you a cheery farewell from the Dog House at Teale Towers until next time.
