Patches the Kitty

A Story of Survival

He loves sitting on my lap

This is my very first article. It’s based on a true story, and is filled with honest facts about our feline family member. Warning, a lot of parts in here may be found saddening. Viewer discretion is advised.

Patches the Large Baby

You see this little cutie? His name is Patches, and he’s a survivor, a life changer, and a beloved member to the Fordham family. (Picture shows him sitting on my lap, and falling asleep on me like a toddler.)

When we first found Patches... Well, I guess saying he found us would be more appropriate. Nonetheless, when we found each other, you wouldn’t believe how badly torn up he was. Around his face and ears, mainly, it looked as if he was mauled by another animal. Basically, he refused to open his eyes with how scratched up his face was, and I honestly believed he was going to lose an ear. To sum things up, we brought him in, got him cleaned up, then patched him up. Ever since then, he remained a member of the family, and became thrilled knowing he gets fed every day, and doesn’t have to worry about getting eaten alive by bugs like before. However, he still has an infection in both eyes, and his face is swollen up pretty badly. This may result in him needing to get surgery, but he’s still holding through it all, and he’s truly a survivor.

Furthermore, this little (BIG actually) kitty definitely put an impact on this family. Reason being, he comes to visit us out of the blue throughout the day, no matter what’s going on. He’s sweet and purring, all while comforting at the same time. Sure, his paws feel like daggers with how big he his, but he’s still so loving and passionate when it comes to cuddles. By doing this, he reminds us that there’s something worth coming home to, or getting out of bed for. Patches has really helped us understand things more clearly in that instance.

The reason we desired to name this little fur ball Patches isn’t because of us patching him up, it’s because of the cool markings he has. By the picture, he appears to be a short haired tuxedo, but he’s actually maine coon, calico, and tux mix. With that, he belongs perfectly in this family—based on his uniqueness, and the fact that this family is very diverse. We have no idea how old he is, due to him being a stray, but he acts like the most loving baby we’ve ever met. Every day, he’d greet me by jumping in my lap and purring as loudly as he can. I don’t know how our lives would be without him.

To conclude with, the main reason why we decided to bring him in is because he deserved a home. A home where he’d be safe, well fed, not be eaten by bugs, and a family willing to give him unconditional love.

Thank you for reading this. I hope you send any kind of good vibes our way for this kitty. He’s going to need it to finish recovering.

He’s not the only animal that we’ve helped. He has siblings—kitties we’ve rescued in the past before him, and I’ll most definitely be writing about them in future articles.

If you would like to give a donation, feel free to do so. All of the money I make off of this will go straight towards this strong, precious kitty.

One last thing. My far most, biggest reason for writing this was to encourage others to help animals. Feel free to paws what you’re doing to save a life.
