How to Be a Good Bunny Mom

If rabbits are kept in cages, they can have a long list of health issues and will also not be happy.

Rigatoni is my bunny's name, he is three years old and is a free-roam rabbit. He is an emotional support animal, he has been trained to respond to sounds of distress or panic along with using a litter box. Rigatoni is playful and when he is needed, I'll see this bunny sprinting towards me, he will jump up on my bed and come see if I'm okay. He receives tons of love for coming to help me and will snuggle up next to me.

The way to be a good bunny mom you must abandon the bunny cage. Rabbits cannot stay in cages, they need consistent ability to run and hop and binki (when a rabbit gets excited they jump and do a little dance). If rabbits are kept in cages, they can have a long list of health issues and will also not be happy.

The Food

RABBITS MUST EAT 80 PERCENT HAY OR THEY WILL BE SICK.

I buy First Pet Select which is the freshest and most cost-effective Timothy hay I have ever encountered online. The company is fantastic and I highly recommend. My bunny LOVES the hay and will try to jump in the box when I have it open on the floor!

If you are interested in getting the best hay for your rabbit here is their website:

I buy the veggies for Rigatoni at supermarkets but I always try to avoid prepackaged veggies and if you'd like a list of foods that are safe for rabbits to eat (yes, my bunny eats bananas as in the picture.)

This is the House Rabbit Society, they have tons of information to help you are your bunny.

Exercise and Toys

Rabbits are most active at dawn and dusk so if you have a free roam bunny in your bedroom get ready for early morning zoomies

My bunny wakes me up at dawn begging for food and will try to take my blanket off me. Once I do get up he will jump off my bed and run around my feet waiting for food. He will run and hop all over the place super excited when I bring out the fresh veggies, when he isn't eating he is playing with toys, cardboard tubes, pine cones, bird toys, and a digging box full of hay! Toys are essential, rabbits need stimulation to keep them from destroying their area, bad behaviors can be stopped from more toys and more loves. Disciplining your rabbit is unnecessary, they only learn from positive reinforcement. If your rabbit destroys something or is about to, say no loudly so they understand not to do that, but NEVER EVER EVER EVER HIT OR HURT YOUR BUNNY!!!!!!!!! They are pray animals and they will be terrified of you just as a dog or cat would!!!!!! If you must, put your bunny in a small enclosed area while cleaning or when it is not safe for them to be out (if someone is in the room that isn't family only trust your rabbit with family or close friends.)

Love!

Your rabbits love you so learn their language, youtube videos are helpful! Remember your rabbits love you and they give their whole body to you so make sure to pet them and love them, its needed for a bond between you and your rabbit!

Rigatoni is my baby, he lives with me in a dorm room at college and helps me everyday! Make sure to get approval from your school before bringing any animal on campus, and always make sure their living conditions are clean, healthy, and safe!
