Having a pet is a pretty exciting time. It’s like bringing a newborn baby home except with fur and a wet nose. Your family no doubt will want to pick out the dog that will bond with them quickly. There are so many different breeds to choose from. If you look in the paper, you will find some that are up for grabs, for free or for sale. Do you have to decide which pup you are going to get? Do you prefer an adult dog? You have options to look into that will get your family a pet that they have been longing for.

Puppies

Getting a puppy can be a joyous thing. If you have small children, that would be the better fit for you. It’s important to allow your child and the puppy to grow up together. When they grow up with each other, you have no issues with them knowing each other. There are specific breeds, and if you look into your local newspaper, you will probably find french bulldog puppies for sale or any other breed. Having a puppy around provides lots of playtime and bustling activity. The young ones will wear themselves out chasing little Fido around the house or backyard. Feeding them would be easy, as you would have to get puppy food. Also, you would have to think about potty training. Are your children up to help? They can take part in taking the puppy outside and letting it do its business and then bringing it back in. Also, it would be good to get them their own set of toys. Puppies can be very demanding because they are really young and require constant care. They whimper and cry a lot and would sleep better in someone's bed versus the floor, so you will have to train them to go to their designated spot. So, if you believe that your family can handle a puppy, then that’s the way to go.

Adult Dogs

Adult dogs don't really require that much care, although you may have to train them to their assigned sleeping spot if the can’t be on the furniture. You can give them toys and dog treats to keep them entertained. Plus, you can take them for walks or let them run around in the backyard. Most of them are child-friendly, provided you get them from a shelter. Any dog that is just stray may have issues adjusting to the way humans live, especially if the dog isn’t neutered or spayed. They may whimper from time to time, but for the most part, they know how to keep themselves busy. While you are at work, give it some water and let the dog go to the doghouse in the backyard. It may be that an adult dog would be better for your family instead.

Picking Wisely

When you are deciding on a new animal for you family, you need to pick wisely. This animal is an important pick for a family because you will have it for quite some time. It's important to find a dog that will be good with children. There are a lot of dogs that can be violent, and you wouldn't want that around your children. Another thing to be aware of is allergies that can come up. There are many children that are allergic to dogs with certain fur. That would be a huge factor that will play a role in choosing your dog.

Dog Breeds

When deciding on the type of dog to get for your family, you must look at the breeds.

In order to get the right dog for your family, you need to understand which breeds are child-friendly and which ones are not. Some of them will protect your home, but will kill your newborn because they want all of the affection. Those are dogs best reserved for homes with older children or single people. If you go to a shelter, you will see mostly dogs that are known to be good around children. So those are adaptable. Who knows? You may walk out of them with two dogs. They are very playful and will follow your commands.

Getting a dog that would fit into the family is a good thing. You are teaching your children to be responsible and that they are not the only beings that require love and affection. Having pets just makes a family extra special because they love something that’s different from them, and it is always part of their heart.
