5 Foods You Shouldn't Feed Your Dog

And Five You Should!

Ever heard someone say "Shout-out to my dog for eating the same thing every day and not complaining?" Well, it's a lot easier to add some variety to your four-legged family's diet than you may think! First, I'm gonna list a few things to NEVER add to your pooch's bowl, and then a few green light items as well!

First off, the one almost everyone knows: Chocolate

This yummy treat contains something called theobromine (say it fast say if confident!), humans can process this quickly and it won't build in our systems to toxic amounts, but your doggo can't digest and pass it fast enough. If enough is consumed it can cause muscle tremors, seizures, an irregular heartbeat, internal bleeding or a heart attack. Whipped cream is a great substitute for this treat and is completely safe for your four-legged friend and available at Starbucks, just ask for a Pupachino!!! If you want a healthy alternative you can always try kiwi!

This second one was a surprise even to me: Grapes/Raisins

These can cause kidney failure in even the healthiest canines. But you can give them strawberries all you want! Who doesn't love strawberries?!

Next we've got a millennial favorite: Avocado

This one is so healthy for people! But careful, feeding this to your pupper can cause sever vomiting and diarrhea. Try giving them bananas or blueberries instead!

Finally we have my favorite summer snack: Cherries

These can cause cyanide poisoning in your doggo when given in large amounts. One or two should be fine, all depending on the size and activity level of your furry friend. But for a safer option pineapple is a way better treat, and even better when frozen!

I only planned on listing bad/good treats but here are a few that I found that are wonderful in moderation! Apples are fine, just make sure not to give them any seeds! Lemons are okay, but your pupper may not appreciate the bitterness. Oranges are also okay but be careful, only a few slices at a time! Peaches and watermelon are great choices in moderation as well; just be sure to remove the pit/rind respectively before doting on your canine companion!

Remember, these options are all provided with the assumption of moderation. Too much of any good thing is bad. But treating your fur babies like royalty doesn't have to be a guessing game. Between you, your pet, and your vet you can figure out the best treats for your dog, that are healthy and that they actually like! Happy snacking!!!
