Most Unique Celebrity Dog Names

Presidents, actors, and fashionistas may have come up with some of the most unique celebrity dog names. But how do those names sound when sung?!

Naming a dog is one of the most important parts of having a dog because you're going to be singing a lot of songs with your dog's name in place of the lyrics. So you don't want an awkward mouth full that's going to keep the hits of today and yesterday out of your usual doggy routine. Did these famous pups get blessed or cursed when they earned the most unique celebrity dog names? You decide!

Martha Stewart – Genghis Khan (Chow Chow)

Martha Stewart's had some fun names for her doggos. Qin, Peluche ("teddy" en español), bête noire ( "pet peeve" en français), and Genghis Khan. But one of these things is not like the others! You might think that being clever is what makes something one of the most unique celebrity dog names, but I'd say it's a history of so much rape that .5% of the world's men are descendants of your dog's namesake. It's like naming your dog Caligula or Vlad (of impaling fame). But how does Gengis Khan sound as part of a song? Let's just say, to the tune of Wang Chung's "Everybody Have Fun Tonight," "Everybody Genghis Khan tonight; everybody Genghis Khan!"

Adam Sandler - Matzoball and Meatball (Bulldogs)

Naming your dogs after food is definitely one of the routes to take to have one of the most unique celebrity dog names. That's because, as comedian Todd Glass says, sometimes you just wanna bite on your dog's face. You just wanna get in there and gnaw on your pup because of how cute and precious they are to you. Nom nom nom dogs! But can you sing a song with these two names in there? Umm, how about "You came in like a Matzoball!" Yeah, that's a real easy one.

Eva Longoria's dog is named Oprah, but 50 Cent's dog is named Oprah Winfree. Having a last name gains you admission to the list of most unique celebrity dog names in my book. And then look at how the name plays into Oprah's history of giving away things to audience members! "You pet a doggo; you pet a doggo; you pet a doggo!" As for musical stylings, let's just say, "Nah nah nah nah nah Oprah Winfree!" to the tune of the 60s Batman works wonders!

George Washington - Drunkard, Mopsey, Tipsy, Sweetlips (Hounds)

If George Washington put out a dating ad it would say, "Must love dogs!" Our nation's first President had so many hounds during his lifetime that a pattern emerges when you look at many of their names: it sounds like Washington loved to drink! He may have even named some of these pups while drunk, which is why so many of them have the most unique celebrity dog names.

If George Washington shouted, "Hey, Sweetlips, get over here!" at the dog park at a pit bull a lot of heads would turn, mostly to say, "#TimesUp!" and then he'd have to say, "I'm talking about my dog." And that's your George Washington meet-cute!

Songwise, because this is so long ago, I'd just sing "Yankee Doodle" about Mopsey and Tipsy, which, given the drinking I'm imagining, George Washington was definitely doing.

Jake Gyllenhaal - Atticus (German Shepherd)

Named after a famed literary figure as well as the top-billed hero on AFI's 100 Years...100 Heroes & Villains, Jake Gyllenhaal's pup Atticus has one of the most unique celebrity dog names. Sure, if you hear Gyllenhaal call his dog's name at the dog park you could say, "To Kill a Mocking Bird isn't as progressive as you think because Tom Robinson is used as a means of advancing a narrative that primarily redeems white people," but that'd be real rude. Don't say that to a stranger who named their dog Atticus! But do write it on the internet! ;-)

Songwise, Atticus is a toughie, but thankfully there's the the 1998 hit "We Like to Party! (The Vengabus)" "Atticus is coming he's such a grumpy puppy he's got to have his dinner for everyone to be happy!" You're welcome, Jake!

John Adams- Satan (Unknown Breed)

Our nation's second President named his dog Satan. Whether you believe Lucifer is the morning star and the bringer of light and knowledge, or that Satan's the source of all evil, you can agree that it's one of the most unique celebrity dog names around. And saying, "Get thee behind me, Satan!" probably never get old when you're President!

Song wise, a lotta hymns but with Satan instead of God or Jesus.

Audrey Hepburn – Mr. Famous (Yorkshire Terrier)

Mr. Famous is one of the most unique celebrity dog names by virtue of not being a good dog name! It doesn't role off the tongue and it sounds like you're playing into the worst stereotypes of being a famous Hollywood celebrity. It almost sounds like Mr. Famous is in Hepburn's rogues' gallery and if she can get her pup to say its own name backwards it'll be transported back to the dimension from whence it came.

Song wise, I would take the Kookaburra song and make it about Mr. Famous. "Mr. Famous sits in the old gum tree Merry, merry king of my heart is he. Laugh, Mr. Famous! Laugh! How gay your life must be!"

James Garfield - Veto (Unknown Breed)

James Garfield, America's 20th President, had a dog named Veto. That's one of the most unique celebrity dog names because a veto is something a president can do! That's like if Trump had a dog named, "The Worst of Us," because all President Sex Criminal can do is be The Worst of Us.

Garfield's just singing songs about how he's vetoing things but he really means his dog. It's a way for him to act out fantasies! "I Veto this sandwich because it's good enough to eat!" And then he gives his four-legged buddy some nom noms, even though human food doesn't rank among the best treats to give to your dogs.

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen - Puddy (Bulldog), Pippa (French Bulldog), Penny (French Bulldog)

John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have named their pups Puddy, Pippa, and Penny. This trio of canines have the most unique celebrity dog names thanks to alliteration. I just want to know how many dogs they have to have before they name two of them Poo Poo and Pee Pee!

I'm thinking they sing "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" but with Puddy, Pippa, and Penny every time it's time for a walk!

Christina Ricci - Sheriff (Miniature Pinscher)

"I hugged the Sheriff, he's the best dog in the world for me!" I bet Christina Ricci has sung that about her pup Sheriff, who has one of the most unique celebrity dog names around. "You're under arrest! For being cute."

Nicole Richie - Honeychild (Shih Tzu)

Nicole Richie wears many hats: fashion designer, author, actor, and television personality. But is she also a doggy cult leader? Because her dog is named Honeychild, and that sounds like something you'd say in a free-love hippy-dippy kinda cult. Or it's what a waiter who gets comfortable real quick with customers might say. Either way, Honeychild is one of the most unique celebrity dog names. "Whoa-oh-oh-oh Honeychild of mine!" Dunzo. Now feed that pup the best no bake dog treat recipes!
