Having Full-Time Travel Dogs
Sounds like a dream to be able to take your fur-babies anywhere with you, right?
Right! We absolutely LOVE having our two girls with us everywhere we go. My husband and I have been together since late 2013, and in early 2014 we adopted our oldest dog, Lennon, who you can see goofing around in the video above.
Her puppy years were spent in a big house with a backyard where she was free to run around and get dirty. She also had a few other dogs to play with, big and small. She loved having a yard to play and dig in, and we hated that we had to move into an apartment in late 2017. Fortunately for us, Daisy the shitzu got to come along so at least they would still be able to play indoors and get out some energy.
They didnt seem to mind too much.
Plus, Lennon still got play dates!
So while we felt bad for limiting her daily options, we really enjoyed watching her let it all out when she got her play dates with my best friends dog, Token. It definitely made us realize that wherever we live next, we needed more space and time for her. Which led us again to maybe renting a house, but we didn't want to be tied to one place. So when we started looking into alternative living, minimalism and van life... permacamping (permanent camping) became a big fascination.
Our apartment broke down to roughly $40 a night, and we were extremely restricted. Most campsites cost less than that a night, and we would be surrounded by nature, other animals, and genuine and kind people. Our dogs would have the chance to not only play outdoor with other dogs all the time, we would also get the chance to watch them be insanely cute! We figured we had found the perfect answer.
The dogs were loving van life, they loved being close enough to snuggle at any time, and they also figured out that we'll give them more treats the closer they cuddle into us!! Sneaky.
Lennon loved stealing her dad's seat as soon as he got out of the car!
They really enjoyed spending their days lounging around while mom and dad worked away in the heat, and we were so happy with our new little life.
Then, one thing after another fell into place, and we secured ourselves a 26 foot pull behind camper (see my other published story to learn all about full time camper living), and it became doggy heaven! With a cubby just the right size for their delicious duck treats and cute little toys, it was meant to be. They love meeting other dogs at RV parks, and little Daisy will not rest until she gets everyone to pet her! I don't think they could be happier.
They are definately lucky, they get to meet mew dogs and potty in new places every week. They always fall asleep exauhsted at night and wake up excited for the new day. Next time you take a family vacation, consider bringing them along (if you hadn't already) the photos will be worth it!
