Happiness Through Sparti's Eyes

Happiness Through Sparti's Eyes

It's not hard in the slightest to please a dog, all you need to provide is love and attention with a side of food and scents. However what is the secret to full-out happiness for a dog? I think it revolves around the same ideals that we have as humans. Narrowing it down to three key elements: relationships with loyalty, fulfillment in your day to day life, and forms of lively activity and excitement. I think Sparti agrees as he monitors me hoping for a free hand!

As soon as my car pulls up Sparti is on his two feet hopping up as if he's ready to dance the night away, his loyal buddy is home just as he thought he was never going to see him again while lying in his bed with a look of disgust. What a difference having a solid relationship is! Once again I have proven he can count on me or my parents who have become near surrogates to this giant baby. Without a positive relationship built on trust and endeavored loyalty, who are you going to share your stories with, your nights that sometimes bring negative thoughts that need soothing and reassurance? Even though Sparti can't speak English I know what he's thinking and he displays his thoughts through his eyes and facial expressions. I also think he is fully aware of what I am saying! So that's it building a relationship, what's next?

Fulfillment comes in many different ways but if Sparti is not you can see it in his eyes, disappointment about what he has not accomplished today. His fulfillment lately has been stalking squirrels, he can't yet call himself a hunter because he has not yet caught one! After a thorough search through our local park and a couple hind-leg stands on trees, he feels fulfilled and a smile shines upon his face. For me, fulfillment is completing what I have set out to do whether it is running a mile or heading on vacation to catch up with a friend I have not seen for a minute.

As Sparti has learned that it is not easy to catch a squirrel, I have learned that fulfillment doesn't exist at one specific milestone like graduating or finding your dream job. I believe it actually starts and finishes many times through your life on a day-to-day and making the most out of each day, as cliche as it sounds, is a paved road to fulfillment in life. Making short-term goals I find is pretty key towards achieving this. Now for some fun.

I think this one is self-explanatory, get out there and enjoy yourself. Try to push yourself a little bit and find out what new adventures are there for your taking. It could be as simple as ripping it to work on your bike or going for a swim in the lake. I'll leave you with some inspiration from the pooch! Enjoy:)

I wonder if I could climb the CN Tower.

Roaming with sheep in Auckland!

I don't know why I wrote this piece, but I was genuinely happy hanging with the big dog and began to think a bit meta cognitively like, "Why is this the case, why am I thinking this way right now?" So there's my answer in the above words!
